We Made Plastic.
We Depend on It.
Now we are Drowning in It.

Despite the efforts of many environmentalists and scientists to impress upon people the importance of recycling, only 1/5 perfect of plastics are recycled globally. Connecting to the issue of environmental equity, in the US alone, (responsible for roughly 1/3 of the global consumption of goods) the figure is less than 10 percent. The lack of global responsibility towards this material issue of overconsumption and exploitation, is reflected in the reach of trash across the world's oceans. Contamination of the Earth's waters stretches from microplastics lying in the deep seafloor, to plastic trapped in the icebergs of the Arctic. The buildup of trash does not solely affect ocean life either, studies currently being conducted show that while the microplastics themselves are unlikely to pass from the gut of a fish into the meat we eat, it is likely that the chemical properties of plastic pass into their tissues and then into our dinners.
