A Grave Climate Warning, Buried on Black Friday
by: Robinson Meyer

November 23, 2018

On Black Friday, the federal government [finally] published a dire report on climate change. It states that climate change would impact both daily life and the economy, harming the health of essentially every citizen. The National Climate Assessment disagrees with Trumps personal statements, stating that, "Climate change, if left unchecked, could eventually cost the economy hundreds of billions of dollars per year, and kill thousands of Americans to boot". Their stance is that it would be in the best interest of the nation, fiscally speaking, to combat climate change.

["By law, a National Climate Assessment like this must be published every four years"]

Climate change is already here, the sea is coming into coastal cities, harvests are failing, and seasons pass in total disorder. Attempting to pass such a report on a holiday to avoid public notice, will not change the inevitable.

["16 of the warmest 17 years on record have occurred since 2000"]
["if humans wish to avoid 3.6 degrees of warming, they must dramatically cut this kind of pollution by 2040. if greenhouse-gas emissions continue to rise, then the Earth could warm by as much as 9 degrees by 2100"]
